I just watched Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. It was very beautiful-as far as telling a story and dialogue, well, I don’t know, but it was quite enjoyable. I must say, having never been the biggest fan of Kirsten Dunst-I enjoyed The Virgin Suicides, another Sofia Coppola film-I did think she looked lovely as Marie Antoinette. So, not the best movie I’ve ever seen and for a while it felt as if I was watching a two hour music video, but I did like it. It kind of made me want to move to the French countryside.
ps I know Marie Antoinette spent ridiculous amounts of money, but watching this, I couldn’t help but question how much was spent on the film. The scenes/costumes/food are crazy, especially the hair.
I have literally blown through Jaqueline Susann’s Valley of the Dolls. It is so hard, yet so easy to read. I want to know what happens, but I also don’t-it is hard to read as all the characters self-destruct, but it is addicting as well. The book of course led to my curiosity about the film. I’ve posted the trailer below, I’m not sure it will do the book justice, but I’ll keep you posted. Since Mad Men Season 2 hasn’t been released yet, I’m hoping this will keep my roommates and I busy for a bit.
My addiction to Valley of the Dolls led to the discovery of this gem. Seriously, has anyone seen this movie? What the hell is going on in this trailer? Are there vampires? Rock bands? I’m so confused.
This looks beautiful.
Netflix instant may be my downfall. For those of you who don’t know Netflix allows you to have movies delivered to your mailbox and streamed directly from the internet. Aside from every Woody Allen movie ever filmed as well as any independent documentary you would want to watch, you can find gems like Spice World. In honor of admitting to the world my love of bad movies, here are a few more embarrassing ones to add to the list. PS if anyone else wants to come clean, add your favorite “terrible” movies as comments! (Perhaps I’ll check them out next time I need to kill some time…)
1. Twilight (I know…but seriously the series is so bad it is sooooo good!!!)
2. Transformers (Is that worse? I fast forward through about half, but man, the half that I watch is so good in that super terrible way.)
Okay, so that is about all I got for now. As a matter of fact, I’m 31 minutes into Spice World and although the soundtrack brings me back to middle school, I am turning it off to finish Tom Robbins‘ skinny legs and all. If you are looking for a great book I strongly recommend it!
Apparently this post wasn’t totally relevant considering I never finish any of these movies or watch them without fast forwarding through some part of it.
